Fall Update 2021

Be the first person to recommend this.
Fall has arrived and soon the snow will be falling, and the holidays will be upon us. The end of the year is the busiest time of the year for the chapter. The Community Outreach committee has coordinated a couple of community outreach events in November, see announcements on the web site to sign up. In addition, our annual gala will be held on December 13th from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at the Walker Art Museum. The Gala Committee, led by Jennifer Somers, has been working hard to create a fun event for the chapter. This event is our largest event of the year, and we hope you will take a break from working from home and treat yourself to an evening out. Yes, you may ...

Some people will need coaxing to come back to the office, but there will be sticks too. That was the message from Tim Yendell at BP talking about the oil company’s return to the office. They’re currently operating a 60/40 office/ home model with individual teams working out what’s best for them. “We’re seeing a steady climb in occupation by incentivising people to make the commute worth it. It’s a case of test, talk to people and test again,” he said. The situation was similar at competitor Shell, according to Tim McDowell who said the firm was aiming for 80% occupancy. But for Lamia Zaky at Inmarsat, the approach was quite different. The firm has not ...

The Power of Connections

Be the first person to recommend this.
The Power of Connections Connections, and how to make them, was the theme that ran through CoreNet UK events over the last few months. And each session brought together a radically different perspective on the connections – both personal and professional – that impact the workplace. The Connections between Landlord and Occupier From a conventional perspective, the “ Using Covid as a catalyst to bring landlords and occupiers closer together” session assessed how Covid has brought landlords and tenants together like never before. The pandemic has brought the two sides of real estate closer than ever before, to adopt a partnership approach to ...

July has arrived and once again, it seems incomprehensible the first half of the year is behind us. June marked the introduction of our new hybrid model where all programs going forward will offer both an in-person and remote option. Admittedly, it is the hope of the board the in-person option will become the primary attendance model for most and the remote option will be for those on the go or for those facing unusual traveling distances to attend. Repeatedly, we hear from both members and guests that while the quality of the program matters to them, it is secondary to the value of the networking with like-minded professionals. Speaking of like-minded ...

Covid has brought landlords and tenants together like never before. Two parties who typically met only occasionally, have sat down together and had open and honest conversations about real estate. In many cases, they’ve moved past their usual transactional relationship to adopt a partnership approach to support one another through Covid. But as the end of the pandemic is in sight, is there a risk that the two sides will return to the opposite side of the ring, never to talk again? At an event held at the end of June, CoreNet’s UK Chapter brought together representatives from landlords (Stuart Cranna/ Aviva Investors, Mark Tyson/ Legal and General Investment ...

May has arrived quickly and starting with our June program, we will be back to meeting in person. For those not comfortable meeting in person, we are working to make sure we continue with an online option. We anticipate the online option will continue indefinitely for our many remote members. Personally, I am looking forward to being back in person, but in a safe environment. In hearing from many of you, I know you agree with me the “community spirit” of our local chapter is most important to your membership. We all enjoy the terrific, thought-leading programs and access to resources on both the local and national level, but most important to our members ...

Repositioning for Growth

Coronavirus turned the world upside down in 2020 and discussions about the future of the office dominated the discourse. But we entered the new year full of hope which was reflected in the CoreNet Global UK Chapter Q1 theme ‘Repositioning for Growth. As a chapter we set out to discover who were the winners in the pandemic and how organisations were repositioning for future success. The high attendance rates and active participation in our events demonstrates that people are looking for answers to the questions being posed by their businesses. From hybrid working to the hub and spoke model, we have had experts from across the industry cover off the key topics ...

Is the move to a Work Near Home office model a headline to sell newspapers or a trend that real estate professionals should be cognisant of? More than 350 sign-ups to the latest Corenet event on March 4 would suggest that there is a swathe of interest in a Hub and Spoke portfolio strategy. Hickey and the Instant Group presented their latest research “The Rise of Suburbia?” to assess the demand for regional workspace, the benefits of more office provision outside of city centres, and the limiting factors from a supply perspective. Data from both Instant and IWG clearly shows that regional demand for desks has increased during lockdown. But is this simply ...

Chapter Members and guests gathered virtually to celebrate the new year. We were thrilled to welcome Angela Cain , CEO of CoreNet Global to share her perspective on the unique year we've experienced - and everything we have to look forward to in 2021. Chapter President Scott Tibbo led the event and announced nine new members to our Board of Directors which is very exciting. We also honored two of our star chapter leaders, Martha Mahoney and Stevanie Demko as the "Volunteers of the Year". Finally, we loosened up with some holiday trivia, before giving everyone a chance to chat in breakout rooms. #Chapter-Event
