Tour DIRECTV & Workplace Experience: A New Employee Value Proposition

While we know that one’s experience at work directly contributes to quality of life (QoL), there has been little if any research to date about how people define beneficial “experiences” in the workplace – nor, do we understand whether this experience is “shared” in its conceptual breakdown, across individuals or if it varies with job type, individual personality, or some other factor(s). Sodexo’s research team undertook a comprehensive research study aimed at understanding the lived experience of people in the workplace, with an emphasis on the positive components that contribute to a “great workplace experience.” The resulting “Workplace Experience” survey instrument aids in the predictive ability of employers to determine causes of absenteeism, presenteeism, etc. In addition, it highlights areas of potential intervention to improve the workplace experience. 

In this presentation, Sodexo will define Workplace Experience and describe the research conducted to conceptualize the Workplace Experience Model. Two cases studies will also be discussed, highlighting two companies that undertook workplace transformation projects in order to provide an opportunity to create a new workplace experience and value proposition for their employees.

Rachel leads consumer insight studies on organizational issues and challenges and opportunities facing our clients. Prior to her current role with Sodexo, Dr. Permuth supported the development of programs and solutions for Fortune 500 companies, leading U.S. Hospitals and higher education institutions. She also served as the Director of the Center of Employee Health and Well-being at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and was also Deputy Director of the Office of Strategic and Innovative Programs at NIH. Her PhD is in Public and Community Health from the University of Maryland. She also has a background in mathematics and psychology.
